August 2009: Geodesys expands its online utility mapping tool
Geodesys has added Thames Water to its list of clients for digdat, the web-based asset mapping service.
www.digdat.co.uk is now host to online asset mapping services for Anglian Water, Virgin Media and Thames Water.
digdat was launched in 1999 and was one of the first mapping services of its kind in the UK, providing utility asset location maps at the click of a mouse. Since its launch, significant improvements have been made to the service and today digdat offers a 24/7, UK wide, asset mapping service which is quick and easy to use with built-in audit and security tools.
There are currently many utility companies still providing requests for asset maps manually. digdat is extremely user-friendly and offers the added advantages of providing up to date information, faster. This means that by giving local authorities, councils, other utilities and contractors access to digdat, it will help to ensure that utility assets are avoided when works are carried out.
digdat has already proven itself to be an easy-to-use, versatile tool for both Anglian Water and Virgin Media, enabling both organisations to offer easier, but secure access to their asset mapping information. Kevin Brown, Business Director commented “We’re excited to be able to provide Thames Water with digdat. It is evident that there is a need for a one-stop shop for online mapping of utilities’ assets and digdat can provide this. “
