VAT Changes to Council (Official) Local Authority Searches from 1 February.
As previously communicated, there will be a change to the way that VAT is charged on Local Authority searches from 1 February. From this date, the CON29R and CON29O elements of the Local Authority search will be subject to VAT at the current rate (as advised by HMRC).
Implications for our clients
We understand from Local Authorities that the implementation of this new VAT requirement will take place gradually over the next six months. Although it has been confirmed that some Local Authorities will start to charge VAT from 1 February, it could take a while before all councils have updated their systems to fall into line with this. Other likely dates for implementation are 1 April and 6 April 2016.
Please rest assured that the Geodesys website will always quote the accurate price. The site is updated on daily basis, so as soon as we are informed of a Local Authority change, the VAT element of pricing will show correctly.
Notification of possible disruption
We expect that there will be some instances when an additional VAT payment will be requested by a Local Authority in cases where a search was sent before the introduction of the new VAT charges. Our Customer Services team will of course be working to smooth these cases out as a priority in order to minimise any delays to our usual service.
Geodesys offers both Council (Official) and Regulated (Personal) Local Authority searches as well as a full range of searches including environmental, drainage and water, flood, planning, chancel and energy. Please login to our site for a property-specific quote.
